Water problems we are asked about

Williamson County has plenty of creeks, hollows and sloped lots, and the calls we expect are simple to describe: a driveway that washes out at the pipe, a yard that stays soaked after rain, a ditch gone to weeds, or runoff from a neighbor's higher ground crossing a pad. Fixing it starts with finding where the water comes from and where it can lawfully go.

Work we do

  • Driveway culverts set to grade, with rip rap at both ends
  • Replacing a crushed, rusted or undersized pipe
  • Cleaning out silted-in culverts and ditches
  • Ditches and swales cut to carry the flow, mowable where it makes sense
  • Turnouts and water bars on sloped lanes
  • Regrading a wet yard or low spot toward an outlet

Why culverts fail

Three mistakes cause most failures: the pipe is too small, it is set too flat so it fills with silt, or the ends are bare so the first big storm undercuts them. Fixing any of these means resetting the pipe to grade on firm bedding and protecting both ends with stone.

Signs yours is on its way out

  • Water standing at the inlet or running over the driveway
  • A dip or sinkhole above the pipe
  • A crushed or rusted-through pipe
  • A washed-out, undercut outlet
  • Silt or debris more than half filling the pipe

Rules and limits

Cities and counties in Williamson County have their own stormwater and entrance requirements, and a culvert on a public road entrance usually needs their sign-off. We are not engineers. For floodplain, big drainage areas or serious flooding, bring in an engineer and we will build to the plan.

How a drainage job runs

  1. Show us the water. Photos during or after a rain help most.
  2. Free on-site look at the inlet, the low spots and the outlet.
  3. One plan. Pipe, ditch, rip rap and regrade are scheduled for a single trip.
  4. Dig and set. Pipe and ditch first, then the surface.
  5. Check the outlet and walk it with you.

Frequently asked questions

Do you do drainage work in Williamson County?

Yes, for larger jobs. Our shop is at 355 Tripp Road in Lawrenceburg, so the excavator travels by trailer. We have no office or crew in Williamson County, and the quote on site is free.

How do you decide the pipe size?

By how much water arrives in a hard rain, the slope, and any size your city or county requires at an entrance. Undersized pipe is a common cause of failure. We look at the drainage in person and recommend a size, and an engineer should be involved on large drainage areas.

Can I just replace the culvert without touching the ditch?

Sometimes, but a new pipe fed by a clogged or badly shaped ditch fails the same way. We look at the inlet, the pipe and the outlet together.

Do you work in creeks or wetlands?

Not without the state approval that stream and wetland work requires. We start with what can be fixed on dry ground.

Can you stop water from running onto my neighbor or into the road?

We can redirect it on your land. Water has to end up where you are allowed to send it, and a city or county may restrict where it can go. Check with them first and we will build to what they allow.

Do you supply the rip rap?

No. We are not a quarry. We order rip rap from a quarry, haul and deliver it, and place it at the pipe ends and outlets ourselves.

This goes into our job book. Or call (931) 458-1500.
